Laura Springham, viola/violin
I have extensive experience as a musician throughout the U.S., as well as Europe and Bermuda. Luxurious hotels, Bermuda beaches, and formal church ceremonies are the backdrop for the many weddings and events I've played.
I have a Bachelor's degree from Eastern Washington University and a Master's degree from the College-Conservatory of Music, University of Cincinnati. Both degrees are in viola performance. I've performed both violin and viola with professional orchestras, chamber groups, for weddings and special events since I was a teenager. Before moving to France, I was employed at the Bermuda School of Music in Bermuda as a music teacher and performer for 9 years.
I've had the privilege to play in orchestras that accompanied world-renowned artists such as Smokey Robinson, Kenny Rogers, John Legend, and Wynonna Judd. I was principal viola for the Bermuda Philharmonic Orchestra, and before moving to Bermuda was a very active performer in the Greater Cincinnati area. I was principal viola for the Huntington Symphony Orchestra and also performed with many other regional professional orchestras.
Now performing in picturesque Southwest France, I am available to play for your perfect wedding day or special event.
I can provide music before, during, and after the ceremony, and additionally during cocktail hour and/or dinner to add a beautiful ambiance. Classical, pop, rock, fiddle, traditional. folk, or religious music can be a part of your special day. I will work with you personally to craft a unique playlist for your wedding or special event.

Ensemble Obbligato are nothing short of outstanding. Laura and the other musicians of the string quartet made our wedding ceremony and reception drinks unforgettable.
From the outset Laura provided a range of song choices, spanning classical to modern pop interpretations. She gave us free reign to choose whatever selection we would like for our big day.
On top of this, they catered to our unique requests. One to learn a song specifically for the procession and the other to learn another song for a sing-a-long! They even counted us in after the intro…
To demonstrate how our guests felt about Ensemble Obbligato’s performance, they received a standing ovation from 60 people after their last song.

Thank you for making our wedding celebration one of the most special days of our lives. We are so thankful we had the Ensemble Obbligato string quartet at our ceremony and cocktail hour. The guests were incredibly impressed and thrilled to have your talents on display.
I wanted to share an unexpected special moment you created for us…. During the cocktail hour I changed into a different dress and wanted to surprise Nik by walking down the stairs in the new look. As I was standing at the top of the stairs I could hardly believe my own ears because I heard our song “All of Me” by John Legend playing downstairs. This song is so meaningful to us and surely the stars aligned to have this special moment with this special song.
Nik is not a crier (I can’t say the same) but this moment brought tears to his eyes and will forever be stamped in my heart as one of the most special, intimate moments of the day.

Laura and the rest of her trio did an INCREDIBLE job playing strings for our wedding. From the beginning, she was incredibly responsive, flexible and was willing to play or learn just about any song we threw her way. A few of our songs were less than traditional, and she did a fabulous job learning and playing them, and brought my husband to tears just before I walked down the aisle.
